flowers for peace

they carried guns
we offered a flower
they wore boots
steel helmets,
grim faces
so we would cower…
retreat in fear…

…we offered a smile
we just reached out…no trace of guile
we wanted to give
so all could  live
in love and in peace for a while.

they lashed out…in a rage
in an age
where power had greed at their roots
they drove their tanks into the crowd
we shouted out loud
so all might hear
but the grim faces sneered,
they sheared lives, their blood cold…
so that nothing was told…

with their butts they smashed
the  hands outstretched
lashing out
they would maim and kill
so all would be still…

…as we fetched
more
flowers
for
peace
